Art at Project Learn

Project Learn has received a $25,000 grant from the Children Can Shape the Future Foundation for an expanded Saturday Art Program. We look forward to welcoming school and community families for art, cooking, and dance/theater every weekend beginning fall 2007!

Creative and artistic learning experiences are strongly valued at Project Learn. Through the process of art, students learn a means of expression as important as language and develop confidence in their ability to create.

While art is integrated with other subject matter, it is also a separate area of study for all students. We provide the younger students with a nurturing and stimulating environment that stresses exploration and process.

In the middle years, as students shift their focus from process to product, they are given the opportunity to choose from a number of electives including line drawing and painting, abstract art, watercolor, video, silkscreening, ceramics, photography, weaving, and jewelry making. Some Group Skills Days are also devoted to art projects, as the entire school collaborates on a project.

Saturday Art

Saturday Art is a monthly art program run by Project Learn teachers Debby Pollak and Joan Fox, and PL parent, Chris Miller.  Held the first Saturday of each month during the school year, Saturday Art is free of charge to neighborhood children from 5 to 14 years of age.  Each month, different mediums and projects are explored, with occassional visits by guest instructors.

Saturday Art runs from 10am - 12pm on the first Saturday of each month, unless otherwise noted.

Kids Care: Working with MANNA

Each year, Project Learn participates in Kids Care, a program where students in public and private schools create art for people who are homebound with HIV and AIDS.  Kids Care is a collaboration of the Metropolitan AIDS Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA), WXPN's Kids Corner and the Woodmere Art Museum.

Before the artwork is given to MANNA clients, it is exhibited at the Woodmere.
